From debuting in 1986, Russ Dewbury has become an influential, much sought-after and highly respected figure on the international dance music scene. In doing so, he has developed a substantial reputation as DJ, worldwide taste maker, live music promoter, record compiler, radio broadcaster and producer.

Based in Brighton UK for over 30 years, Dewbury is one of the premier DJ's on the circuit having performed at top festivals and club nights in over 35 countries from New York to Berlin, Singapore to San Francisco, Auckland to Stockholm.

In 2020, Russ's grooves continue to move dance floors worldwide and Russ enjoys a hectic touring schedule.

One of the original UK “black music" DJ's, Dewbury ran the longest running club session in the world. The Brighton Jazz Rooms’ which opened in 1987 and ran every weekend for over 20 years. Russ hosted and presented an incredible array of DJ talent along the way including Rainer Truby, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Jazzanova, Gilles Peterson, Nicola Conte, Phil Asher and many others.

As an acknowledged champion of live music Russ Dewbury is also well known as promoter of the legendary "Brighton Jazz Bop" events. Established in 1988 the Jazz Bop was a much loved event which combined appearances from cult U.S Soul, Funk, Afro Latin and Jazz artists with the cream of the new scene.

Russ curated a who's who of international and UK artists including Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Pharoah Sanders, Charles Earland, Spearhead, Terry Callier, lamiroquai, The Roots, The Herbaliser, Marlena Shaw, The Cinematic Orchestra, Tony Allen, Ozomatli, Fat Freddys Drop, James Taylor Quartet, Roy Ayers Ubiquity, Quantic Soul Orchestra, Mulatu Astatke. The Jazz Bop's ground breaking line ups are rightly acknowledged as a fore runner of today's festival culture and plans are underway for a special reunion Jazz Bop show for 2023.

Dewbury has a solid reputation for quality compilation releases spanning the musical arena. These include The New Jazz Spectrum / Sense of Direction (BGP) the hugely successful "Africa Funk” and "Club Africa" series (Strut/Harmless) which sold over 100,000 copies worldwide as well as cult projects including Jazz Bizniz for Counterpoint Records.
